Re: Pattern instructions

Heather, I finished the gown. I decided to use the Tea Gown/Wrapper rather than making a separate shirt & bodice. So, I just sewed the Butterfly train directly into the two back seams, made the length just longer than street length and pleated the sides of the train to fit the length of the Tea ...

Re: Pattern instructions

Thanks Heather! I figured I could do something like that. I may leave the fullness though and put pleats on the sides, which would focus the fullness toward the back. Thanks for the idea of the underskirt. I get lazy and hadn't thought about making one. I could make it out of muslin with just some f...

Re: Pattern instructions

Heather, I was wondering if the butterfly train could be attached as the back of a skirt (TV 208) rather than as an ad-on? I know there would need to be some adaptations, but I just wondered. Interesting thought....

Re: Pattern instructions

Thank you so much for emailing me the instructions, Heather!! I know my original set is around here somewhere, because I'm sure I put it someplace "safe" after I read them. In the meantime, I can still make that train!! WooHoo!!

Pattern instructions

Heather,
I wrote about a week ago but either you didn't get it, or the reply went into my spam, so I'll re-ask it. I have misplaced my directions for the butterfly train. May I buy another set of instructions so that I can make it?
Thanks!

Re: Polonaise help

Thanks so much, Heather! I may sew the cord into the seam. I'll have to play with it a bit.

Polonaise help

Heather, I am making a reproduction of the pic from Harper's Bazar, the 1876 La Boiteuse Polonaise Walking Suit. I am making it out of 100% cotton, pin-wale corduroy and a nearly matching silk for the under skirt (the bottom portion that shows only - per period pics). It's not easy to see, but the b...

1840's gown

Heather, I found this 1840's gown posted on eBay. I love it when people open clothing up so those of us that are OCD about historical accuracy can see how it was really done! They are calling the opening at the waist a pocket opening. Heather - what do you think? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ca-1840-Civi...

Re: Next dress! (OMG help me choose fabric! haha)

Looking back at the original print, it reminded me of a paisley....had you considered a paisley-type print?

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

I was actually meaning to have the extra fabric on BOTH sides, not one. That way the excess is evenly distributed and not overly bulky in front, which can be gathered without looking cumbersome. And, as mentioned, you either move the buttons or sew additional rows in so you're ready. The hook-and-ey...

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

I have a suggestion that incorporates another idea, with the gathering, and it could reduce the bulk of having a ton of gathered fabric. You could size and cut the extra fabric, and button it into the jacket on the inside, with some gathering to help it fit. Then as you progress in the pregnancy, ju...

Answer! Re: Skirt question

Hi, I loved the image so I started looking at some of the other works, and look what I found! The same gown from a different angle, and I think it will resolve the apron/train issue!!
