Re: help with fitting TVE21

Thanks, Bookwym, for your reply. I reread what I wrote and don't know how you could understand what I was talking about. It was confusing to me, and I wrote it!

That does help to think of it as fading from the waist to the hip.

help with fitting TVE21

Hi Heather. I'm making your Trumpet Skirt TVE21. I am able to sew okay, but I'm not very good at fitting so I have a problem. I chose a size according to my hip measurement, but my waist is bigger than what that size provides for (I have a size "H" hip and a size "I" waist). You ...

Your dress is very well done. Love the color and the big bow on your hat. So sorry to hear about your job. Hope you find a new one real soon.

Re: I'm pregnant! Yay...oh, my bodices no longer fit...help!

I haven't posted here for months and months, and I don't have any suggestions for you, but I just had to send my congratulations. My first thought was that if you have a girl, what wonderful Victorian clothes you will be making for her! :D I've enjoyed looking at all the beautiful costumes you've ma...

Okay, it is now the 26th and still no Belle Alley. I haven't been at the site for a while, just tried and I got that "suspended" message. I thought, OMG, all that wonderful information is gone!!!! Lost forever? :scared: I hope not. Has anyone heard anything about what's going on? T...

Re: Newbie Here!

Welcome, Emmaline, and what you've done so far is fantastic! Don't worry about the pleats not being perfect. I have an original 1880's skirt and bodice and the pleats on the skirt are not perfect either. I was surprised when I saw how uneven they were, but actually didn't notice until I inspected up...

Re: Question about cotton sateen

Thanks Heather and Bookwyrm for your replies. While I admire and am in awe of the CW folks that have done so much research and are so knowledgeable, I agree that trying to be 100% accurate limits the presentation. Not wearing or doing something because it wasn't the norm, doesn't make sense to me ei...

Question about cotton sateen

I am planning on making a Late Bustle dress from TV patterns. I'm trying to make a dress similar to one in Harper's Bazaar, circa 1884. The original dress was made from a printed cotton sateen, and I want to make my dress out of the same type of fabric. I can find all kinds of solid cotton sateen bu...

Hi, Bookwyrm. I live about seventy miles from Portlanld, on the coast. Would love to join you on some of your outings. :bounce: I don't usually travel to Portland during the winter, but I hope I can make some of the meetings starting in the spring. Good luck with your group.

Hi aimeekitty. I'm a novice sewer, so can't give you any advice. Just wanted to say what a fabulous ensemble you are planning to make. Hopefully, someone will step up and give you some suggestions soon. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here. Good luck on your project. Be sure to post pictures...

Re: TV101 bustle and 216 1875 Parisian trained skirt

You did a wonderful job on the petticoat and skirt. Love the skirt color, too. How is the bodice coming along? I would love to see a picture of the finished ensemble. I plan to start making TV101 soon. I noticed on yours you added trim to the ruffles. I was planning to do that too. How did you finis...

Hi, Bookwyrm. I think Ritzville is in Washington state. Maybe eastern part of state. I think they have a chapter of The Victorian Society of America there.

Re: question about fabric

Thanks, Erin! I'll keep your advice in mind when I go fabric hunting. :)

I'm going to use TV460 bodice, TV362 overskirt and TV261 skirt. It's amazing how similar these are to the dress in Harper's Bazar. I'm hoping I can find cotton sateen with a similar pattern.

Best wishes,
Kathleen

Re: question about fabric

Thank you Erin and Tansy for your replies. It's good to know that the cotton sateen available now will be okay for my dress. :D I was looking on the Fashion Fabrics Club website and noticed they had a lot of stretch cotton sateens. There were a few that were not stretch and were suitable for dresses...

question about fabric

I'm planning to make a dress based on one in Dover's Harper's Bazar 1867-1898 . The description of the dress says it is made of cotton sateen. Does anyone know if cotton sateen made now is the same as the type they had in the 19th century? I know muslin made today is different than what they had in ...

Thanks, Orianna. Sorry to hear you had the same problem with your corset. There is room to take my corset in on the sides, so guess I will do that for now. After I lose a little more weight and get my sewing room finished, I'll attempt to make a corset. :scared: I'll use the busk and the boning from...
