Ball gown support TV 202

Dear Heather and all the wise ladies of this board, We're going to Great Britain in April and we've been invited to attend a Victorian ball. That means I need a dress fairly quickly. I've chosen TV 202 as the skirt since it's very easy and quick to work up. I have made the Grand Bustle, TV 108, to g...

Re: Question about the Parisian

The skirt's coming along beautifully and I'm at the point of adding the waistband. The question that now arises has to do with the ties. I have the one that's supposed to go in the casing to form the pouf's ruffle. I have the marks in place to sew the rest of the ties in place. Please, where in the ...

Question about the Parisian

I'm making TV 216 and have hit a snag. I had to flatline all the pieces because the fabric was too limp to work with otherwise, but then followed the instructions, sewing the three front panels together then hemming them, per the instructions. Next the directions said to put in the pleats for the tw...

Re: TV108... Dart?

Heather! Help! My TV 108 is coming along very nicely. However, Ruffle 2 seems to sew right through the channel of Bone 7. There's nothing in the instructions (that I could find) indicating what to do. Am I correct in assuming that I should stop my stitches at the beginning of the channel and resume ...

Re: TV 108 is too small for me and can a train be added?

Thank you, Heather. I considered all of those. Tell me, would you consider exchanging the wires? I can make up the bustle with the additions and send your correctly cut 2X wires back to you to be re-sold to a real 2x lady, with the lengths written down for re-cutting. OR What do you think of extendi...

TV 108 is too small for me and can a train be added?

Two questions: Firstly, I have received my TV 108 and the pre-cut bones in the 2X size. Sadly, I'm rather more ample than its maximum measurement. My hips are 56" around. I am thinking I can hadd half an inch to each seam of the front panels and maybe get around it. But will that distort the ba...

How on earth did you come up with a pattern for a 180" hoopskirt?

Re: any pics of 1887 Tournure?

I don't have any photos of me wearing the Imperial under a dress, but this is how it looks with the TV 170 (View 3) modified by extending the center back pieces to accomodate the additional size.

Re: Petticoat for the Imperial

I figured out what to do to make a petticoat for the Imperial. You can do it with Views 1 or 3, but you need to draft a 4-6" extension for the back piece above the flounce and then proceed as usual. Now if someone would help me figure out how to do the 'freepetti' for the elliptical cage crinol...

Re: TV 108 Grand Bustle

I bought the Grand Bustle (TV108) pattern and have discovered that I am several inches larger in the hips than its largest size. I've never encountered that with TV before. If I enlarge it to fit I'm afraid the boning won't work. The waist measurement is fine, it's only around the hips, by about 4 i...

Re: Trim triminee, trim triminee, trim, trim, teroo

Heather, you are truly a genius. Thank you. What can you tell me about #1241, Fig.2? I can get a clue from the drawings of the others, but that one makes no sense to me at all.

Thanks you!

Truly, I learned more about trims by reading your pattern notes than these alleged "directions".

Trim triminee, trim triminee, trim, trim, teroo

Okay, I'm not going to come off well here because I don't know how to discuss this without badmouthing people I don't know and who otherwise have never harmed me. Apologies all around if I offend the maker or friends there of, but I really don't get it  at all. I purchased some trim...

Re: 1887 Imperial Skirt

Your trim could be velvet, Lily. One of my other skirts has a wide horizontal stripe in velvet. It's the elliptical rather than the imperial, but that's a big skirt too. You could even use different widths of ruched black velvet ribbon to make multiple stripes. It would be beautiful on gray taffeta....

Re: 1887 Imperial Skirt

Thank you, Heather. I understand now what it's supposed to look like. Now (of course) this raises another question: How do you finish off the exposed fabric edge that is not caught up in the waistband?

I appreciate you time. I'm learning a lot.

Re: 1887 Imperial Skirt

Oooh. From your original description and from the picture I got the impression it was more like a fan draping. Well, I'm going to have to do some research how to make them because the skirt's instructions are a little vague. I've been sewing for 20-odd years and never heard the term before.
