Hi there, I'd have thought if you wanted the sides to overlap by an inch, you'd be best to extend it by 1/2 an inch on each side, then the buttons would go up the centre. If the skirt back already overlaps, I guess you wouldn't need to change it, although you could alter it slightly just to make it ...

Thanks for your replies! I have been kind of leaning towards the "large and grand" option, although it'll be harder to make than a smaller one! I don't have many clues when it comes to hatmaking. I don't think I could do it from scratch, especially since it seems impossible to buy such a t...

Yeah, I lined the skirt fully and made a petticoat/underskirt from the same pattern with ruffles to hold the hem out. It worked pretty well, looks elegant and moves nicely when I walk. Gives me lots of lovely curves too! I'm still stumped on the hat question though...The trouble is I'm not sure exac...

Regarding Hats

Hi everyone, I am looking for some expert advice regarding what sort of hat to make to go with this outfit: http://www.butterick.com/item/B4954.htm?tab=costumes&page=1 I've just finished making it (the slim skirt version) out of some beautiful indigo coloured duvet covers I found in a second han...

Grand Bustle Question

Hi there, I am about to embark on the Grand Bustle, and need some advice. What is the best kind of fabric to use? Something light that won't add too much weight to my outfit? Or something heavy that will be strong enough to hold the wires? I can't make a decision!! Also, how much fabric do you need ...

LM Underbust Corset

Has anyone tried making the Underbust Corset from Laughing Moon? I finished mine last night and it hasn't quite worked as well as I hoped! It does pull my waist in beautifully, but I can't make the busk look right. When I tighten the corset the busk curves outwards at the bottom and can be seen jutt...
