Re: Look what my husband made for me!

No, not really, but I did end up wearing it in a show, which is where the picture was taken. I was singing "I Was A Good Little Girl 'Till I Met You!"

Lioness: Thanks, I would have to agree with you on that! :)

Re: Collar sizes

Would it be weird to have a front opening bodice, and a front placket in the skirt?

Re: Collar sizes

Great, thanks Heather. Do you think it would be easy enough to attach a skirt to the bottom of this bodice? Would it need to have a waistband, or could I just pleat the skirt straight onto the bodice?

Thanks again,
Susan

Collar sizes

Dear Heather, I'm making costumes for a production of "Great Expectations", and am about to cut out the 1860's Darted Bodice in three different sizes. All of the backs are size C, but the fronts are size C, D and G. I'm wondering how I know which size to cut for the collar? Is it the same ...

Re: Pick Stitching

That's what it looks like to me too. Makes sense, as it would stay in place better than a running stitch. Thanks for the link!

Re: Pick Stitching

My understanding is that yes, it is basically just a running stitch. You have to make sure that the seams are lined up on both layers, then you stitch right through the middle of the seam so that the two layers stay lined up and don't shift around. It's a bit slow as you have to check with each stit...

Re: Tv 101 -washing

The best way I know to wring water out of things without killing your wrists is to wrap it up lengthwise in a towel, then stand on one end of the towel and use both hands to twist the other end as tight as you can. The towel ends up soaked, and your clothes end up nearly dry! Edited to add: You woul...

Reconstructing History have this one:

I've never made any of their patterns though, so can't say whether it's good or not.

Red and Black dresses

Have you ever made a Red and Black dress? It sounds as though many of us have fallen for this colour combination at some point or other, and have either made a dress, or have one planned! I thought it would be fun to start a thread where we could all post a picture of our Red and Black creations, ju...

Re: Which overskirt would best suit a diagonal patterned fabric?

You could have the stripes going any direction if you flat-lined it. Maybe cut it on the bias to make straight stripes for a bodice, then use the diagonals on the skirt like in Laura's picture.

Question about Butterick Coat

Hello all, I've been wanting to make this coat http://butterick.mccall.com/b5266-products-7605.php?page_id=385" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and have finally bought it and been cutting it out, but I'm puzzled/curious about one thing: what are the two slits in the front for? I had as...

Re: LM Frock coat

We used a heavy-weight fusible interfacing. We found one that had quite a loose weave but was still really thick, so it added body to the front of the coat, but didn't make it hang stiffly. We just came across ours in a shop, so I'm not sure what you'd have to search for to find it, sorry. Out of in...
