New dress for Llandrindod Wells festival 2011

Hello all, We were in Wales last weekend for the Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival, for which I finished a new dress just in time! This has been 3 years in the making as I cut out the pieces before I left New Zealand in 2008, and only retrieved them this year to finish making it in the UK! It's t...

Re: Ushist Menswear?

The Laughing Moon menswear patterns are really good, especially the waistcoat. My husband made himself a waistcoat and frock coat, the first clothing of any kind that he had ever sewn, and while he's still getting better now with each one he makes, even the first ones turned out pretty great. I coul...

Holding train for dancing

Hi everyone, Just wondering, if you are wearing a trained skirt for dancing, and want to hold up the train with a loop around your wrist, would you usually hold it in the right hand or the left hand? Or is it just a matter of choice? I haven't done a lot of dancing, so don't know if one hand would b...

Re: TV208

I'm sure that either would work (which is obviously why it's so hard to make a decision!), but I made the grand bustle to go under this skirt, and I really loved the result.

Re: Sad news about one of our UK members

We are so sad about this too, it will not be the same in Rochester without Louise! The saddest thing is that Louise was engaged and beginning to plan her wedding. She died of a sudden heart attack whilst visiting her fiance, and she was only 30 years old. Perhaps some of you would like to arrange to...

Re: Young girls Victorian dress..help

Hi Ginny,

I'm not sure if this is the sort of thing you want, but have you seen Simplicity 2843?

Here's the link:
http://www.simplicity.com/p-1761-costumes.aspx

I'm sure you could adapt them to lose the zippers etc!

First Wedding Pics!

As promised, here are some pictures from our wedding which took place last Friday. I made my gown using the Parisian Trained Skirt over my Grand Bustle (minus the bottom hoops), and a cross between the Polonaise and 1870's Ball Gown Bodice. The hat was one of the ones Heather used to sell, which I h...

Sadly we will almost certainly not be there. :( On the other hand, we are getting married in 9 days, so I should be able to show you some pretty pictures in a few weeks or so!!!

Hope you all have fun in Wales, we will look forward to catching up before too long I hope!

Re: TV225: Trainsolution for my planned weddingdress

I'm puzzling over pretty much the same problem for my wedding dress with the Parisian Trained Skirt. It is such a full train that I think bustling it might be quite difficult... Does anyone have a suggestion who's made this skirt before?

Re: Llandrindod Wells 2010

Lol, thanks Cathi! We're actually going away on our honeymoon on the last weekend of August, so we certainly won't be in Wales for that weekend. We may possibly make it for the first weekend of the festival, but it'll probably be a sort of spontaneous decision if we do. And I certainly won't be maki...

Re: Llandrindod Wells 2010

We had dinner at the Glen Usk last year, and got ripped off. We ordered fish and chips from the bar menu, but they charged us the full dinner menu price - £13.50 each for fish and chips! And we didn't find out until we got the bill when we left the hotel, and they said it was too late to change it. ...

Re: Does the Butterfly Train have to go on a bustle?

Kia ora, pussnbootd! It's nice to see another kiwi here. I'm in England now but I'm from New Zealand and know your frustration at the lack of costume supplies! It's definitely cheaper to get the patterns directly from the Truly Victorian Website. Other sellers will have already paid shipping on the ...

I was also sorry not to meet more of you in Rochester. However, if you heard any of the rumours that were flying around on the Sunday that someone had got engaged at the Hoi Polloi Ball...they were true. It was me :D

Petticoat for Flared Skirt

Hi there, I'm about to make the 1890s Flared Skirt, TV297 and a new petticoat (why do I always need a new petticoat every time I make an outfit??) Would the view 2 or the view 4 petticoat be better for this skirt? Or would I be better off using the skirt pattern? Please advise! ~Susan
