1870s and 1880s hats

Postby nat20lee » Wed Sep 12, 2012 7:58 pm

Where is a good place online to buy a hat appropriate for the late 1870s and early 1880s? I'm looking for a reproduction ready made hat or a made to order hat. I'm not interested in making my own hat or bonnet right at this moment.

Also, in the 1880s would a younger woman (22yrs) have worn a bonnet? I know that hats were more fashionable in the 70s, but it seems to me that the bonnet enjoyed a bit of a revival in the 80. Or am I wrong and only older married women still wore them?

I've never ordered from her but there's Denise Nadine Designs. She has kits but also some finished hats.

I make hats to order, and can use your fabric or try to match what you already have. You can email me at rajaniblue@netscape.net and I can give you more info.

There's a great range of hat patterns by Lynn McMasters, if you fancy making your own: http://www.lynnmcmasters.com/patterns.html
